I heard this song on Gossip Girl season 5 episode 14 and I just LOVE it! It was also on the Secret Circle, has anyone else watched that? Serious addict. The chorus in this song gives me goose bumps - it's beautiful.

Clearly Sunday's are my favourite day of the week for catching up on my TV series - I am such a junky, and a Gossip Girl junky at that... I really should be doing my assignments!

Review: Clinique High Lengths Mascara

Mascaras don't come cheap. I find that they are often too clumpy or dry out too quickly too. I did have an amazing Elizabeth Arden one once, (like two years ago and dammit I cannot find that same one anywhere). And I think I may have found a pretty good substitute. The Clinique High Lengths Mascara has a great application brush. It may look a little strange but it works brilliantly. I also find that it hardly clumps at all. What a dream! As you can see by my one eye done and the other eye, not - there is quite a noticeable difference. Oh the things and photos I put up for you :)

At first I thought the application would be tricky. But it really isn't and after you have used it once or twice, it's just as easy to use as a regular mascara brush. Personally, I feel that it also stays on really well throughout the day. I have seen a lot of negative reviews about this Clinique High Lengths Mascara, but I must admit being rather fussy, I thought this was one of the better ones I have come across. And would recommend at least trying a sample if you're going to be buying a new mascara any time soon. What mascaras have you been using? And what has been your fave?

To the Kony 2012 Critics...

You make me so mad! Why is it that when there is a mass movement to do something good for a change, to raise awareness for innocent children that have been forgotten about for so many years, you still sit there in the comfort of your (safe, warm) home and still try and find a bone to pick? Why can't "good" just be "good"?

It's so annoying that when there's a mass movement to do something good for a change, and you still get cynics who criticise it. I think the point to focus on is that Kony is notorious for kidnapping children, forcing the boys to become fighters and using girls as sex slaves.

A few people have been posting links to sites saying that the Invisible Children charity doesn't give 100% of the money to the children. The staff/marketing packs/postage/flights/equipment will all be costing money and something has to cover it, that's just business. I'm happy with my decision to support this. Who else has taken a stand for these kids? What have you done to make a difference? If you can just sit there and criticise this organisation than what solution and change are you going to do? I hope those few people who have something bad to say, don't put anyone else off donating towards Kony12. For me personally, when I see stories like this I often feel so helpless. To me, the Kony 2012 makes it an easy and accessible way to make a difference when I often feel like I want to, but am not in the position to.

I think people would have missed the point, this is to raise awareness that there is a monster out there torturing families and scaring innocent kids. This has been going on for years. It's only if people are made aware of it that a positive change can be made. It will be such a shame if people still turn a blind eye - but then again the world is a messed up place.

I think spring may be on it's way! I might have still been wearing a coat and scarf today but just seeing these blossoms blossoming made me hopeful that sunnier days were still to come.

Today was also the first day I became a student again. Part time anyway. I am doing a HR course for work so for the next few months I will remember what it was like to hand in assignments and do tests. I really thought when I finished my last day at uni my days of studying were over. Why didn't anyone tell me it was just beginning.

I am off to babysit in 30 minutes time. I have starting looking after the 3 of the cutest kids in town. It was the eldest girls 7th birthday on Saturday and she loves reading. So I bought her Anne of Green Gables. That used to be one of my favourite books when I was younger.

Anyhoo I can't believe it's only Tuesday. It sure feels like a Thursday. I have a feeling this is going to be a long week. I better get going. Have a good week and let me know if you getting up to anything exciting!

If you want a little hassle free hand cream for your handbag then get your hands on this! The L'Occitane hand cream is divine! It is thick and creamy and I felt it absorbed quite quickly while leaving your hands feeling so soft and smooth. I just bought this for my mom as she suffers with dry hands and I loved it so much. (I hope she doesn't mind I squirted a little bit to show you what it looks like!)

I am a huge animal lover (hence being a vegetarian), if I could trade in my day job and simply open up an animal shelter or even volunteer at one for the rest of my life I would! Oh-why-can-I-not-win-the-lotto-already?

I know you've probably seen a million charities wanting your pennies but hand on heart, if you did have a spare R1, £1 or 1 whatever your currency, these people and the work they are doing is amazing! And they could really do with your help. "The Nature Association" - Romania's Number One Animal Shelter was founded in 2002.

"Bucharest is home to anywhere between 100,000 to 1 million stray dogs. Every year, thousands are killed by cars, poisoned, die of hunger, or freeze to death.

We are a foundation that is fighting hard for the city's animals. We receive no regular funding and depend fully on donations for our work.

Our 100% non-kill shelter is currently home to 60 cats and 350 dogs. Our volunteers also feed hundreds of dogs in the area and organize large sterilization campaigns. The shelter offers food, water, vaccines, and emergency medical treatment. We also organize over 100 adoptions per year - please see our adoptions album.
Please, help us raise awareness by liking and sharing our page. Hundreds of dogs' lives have been saved, but thousands more need our help."

I was actually looking for something more sparkly or studded but I saw this collar on sale and thought "oh what the heck". My friend Jade left this afternoon to fly back home so sunny SA - boohoo for me :( It was such fun having a familiar face to hang out with. Nothing quite beats a catch up with an old friend. We consumed far too many Starbucks, discovered a quirky vegetarian restaurant in Covent Gardens called Food For Thought, attempted horse riding, shopped up a storm, popped into Humming Bird Bakery and browsed Spitalfields Market (which was a let down due to the snowy weather I think). This is what I wore on Sunday for our day out on the town.

It's Friday!

One of my most favourite humans and loveliest of lovely friends, Jade arrived this morning from South Africa for a four day sleep over! I am so excited! I saw her this morning to fetch her luggage but she is on a mission around London now while I am working. Bleh. Bring on home time I say! And I have two days off work next week to spend with her. (Mondays are ALWAYS a good day to take off I say!)

Hamie is still MIA :( My friend Jess suggested he has taken a gap year to discover what he really wants out of life. I like this idea. Until then I have continued to leave his cage open and set hamie traps with yoghurts drops as a lure (what hamies can resist those huh?) And he is a fatty so hopefully won’t be able to resist the temptation much longer!

I am going horse riding tomorrow. I have never ridden a horse that wasn't lead by a rope. (And even that only happened once many, many years ago).Did I mention it is a 5 hour out ride? I am somewhat afraid now. Boy it sounded like a good idea at the time. I have to start resisting those Groupon deals!

Well I better get back to my “real” job.

Review: Stila Kitten Lip Glaze

If you saw my post the other day (here) then you know I got this baby for free. Hopefully you picked up yours too? This is the first time that I have used the Stila Lip Glaze or any of the products for that matter. And for the prices of this brand, I expected it to be pretty marvelous.

This shade "Kitten" is a sheer gloss with a peachy/golden colour and a whole lot of shimmer. If you are a lipgloss junkie then you will love this. However I personally would stay far, very far away from it on a windy day. It is thick and it is sticky and one swish of hair in the wrong direction would not be pretty if it landed on your smackers. I applied it straight onto my lips in the pictures below. I think it's pretty and quite versatile if you like a shiny gloss but I think it would look even nicer on someone with a darker complexion.

The brush makes it easy to apply while allowing you to be quite precise. It does take a few turns to get the colour to the top of the brush initially but it flows easily after that.

Overall I quite like it and will definitely use it. However for £15, I probably wouldn't actually buy it. It's awesome as a freebie or on sale but overpriced simply as a daily gloss. What did you think of it?

Tea Time

I love the packaging of the herbal tea range at M&S. The boxes are so pretty! And they are a steal for 99p for 20 tea bags. This past weekend I bought some peppermint tea. With the hub being sick and all that jazz we have started a super hardcore health kick (I secretly had speckled eggs yesterday!) but I am trying to do this with him, you know do the "wifey thing". And I have discovered that if I put a teaspoon of Xylitol in a cup of peppermint tea, he actually drinks it. Score! And high five to myself. So this was our start to the morning. Happy Monday everyone!

A few new goodies for my handbag that I got over the past week or so.

Stila lip glaze, L'occitane hand cream, Lucas' papaw ointment and not for my handbag but for my tea - my new heart coasters! The Lucas' pawpaw ointment was a gift from my lovely friend as mine is nearly finished. This is the Australian answer to Zam-buk but without the colour and awful smell. I love this stuff and it is ALWAYS in my handbag and on my lips. If you are ever in Aus, get some! I will review my new hand cream and lipgloss later this week.

Now I'm off to snooze before starting the search for Hamie again X

Hamie has escaped! We have turned our home inside out and upside down looking for him. We stay in a studio so it's not like it's a mansion with a million places to hide. We have done the bucket with food trap, built a bridge back into his cage and nothing. This is day 4. He hasn't even touched the food and water stalls we set up everywhere. I'm starting to worry now... How long do these critters hide for? Has anyone gone through this. We are bad parents:( He is so grounded when he gets home!

*Squeak I am so excited. I discovered the E.L.F cosmetics range this morning thanks to a retweet by @Super_Gorgeous, and I think I just made one of the greatest cosmetic discoveries - ever! (Well this month at least!) Clearly I still have a lot to learn moving from Africa to London.

I also recently started browsing their cosmetics and sun and care range and couldn't believe how cheap they are. And postage within the UK is included. They had a few Stila goodies, the most expensive being £5.95, that is crazy compared to the normal prices and everything (except 1 item) in the Collection 2000 range that they had in stock, was under £2. There are far too may products to mention so you will have to have a look for yourself. Here are just a few of the things I had my eye on:

Argh (That came out more like a pirate) what I meant was a *huff and puff* sound. It is only Tuesday night and it feels like a very, very long week. I was off work on Monday and today with a dreaded cold, usually I blow these things off and keep on trekking but I am totally run down and feeling so sorry for myself (I think it may be man flu) with my raw nose and one blocked, one runny nostril. Yip I am all kinds of attractive right now!

So this is just a quick post before I head off for a snooze as I am all tucked into bed (just after 8pm I am embarrassed to say). I did manage to finish my book I was reading, Perfect Match by Jodie Picoult! Ooh you must read it. Other than that my last two days have been nothing short of facebook stalking and blog cruising. From tomorrow I shall be back to normal posting!

I am truly in love with the Nikon 1 range. I first saw the Nikon V1 in Selfridges over Christmas and have not stopped thinking about it since then (that must be love right?) These little beauts have all the sophistication of a modern day camera with the charm and quirkiness of something old school. I love the look (the white is my fave!) I love the lightness and compactness of it and I love how you can still use other lenses on it too. The image and video quality is just phenomenal. I have been dying to get a camera that takes a great, clear photo and this camera does just that! The only thing I don't like is the price eeeeek. They range from £500 (that was the cheapest I could find online ) to well over a £1000 if you getting lenses and all the goodies too. Has anyone bought a camera from the Nikon 1 range? Or heard anything about them? Or even has a good (cheaper) alternative to recommend? I would love to hear what camera you use, especially for blogging. X

January Book Club

These are just a few of the books I have loved reading lately so thought I would share them with you in case you haven't read any of these already.

1.) Things I Want My Daughters to Know by Elizabeth Noble. This is so beautifully written and will pull at your heart's strings.

2.) A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. This is without a doubt one of my favourite books!

3.) The Gift by Cecelia Ahern. You will be moved throughout this story and by the time you have read the last sentence, will have a slightly different perspective of your life.

4.) Oneday by David Nicholls. Gosh the movie was terrible. You just have to read the book!

5.) Perfect Match by Jodie Picoult. All her books I have read so far are great I think. I am nearly finished with this one and wow, I never expected the book to be like this... I even caught the bus home last night so I could find out what happened next (nerd I know!)

FREE Stila Lip Glaze

I had two major discoveries today. Harvey Nichols and Stila! I blame this to the fact that I am still (relatively) new to London. Firstly how did I not know that Harvey Nichols existed? It’s like a Harrods and Selfridges. And is pretty super amazing! And the cosmetics range Stila – have I been living under a rock? We don’t get this back in

I went to Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge during my lunch break. Traded in my ol’ cheapy Labello gloss and in return was handed a beautiful FREE Stila Lip Glaze in the colour “Kitten” which has a RRP of £15. If you have an old lipgloss in any size, shape, brand or colour and want to trade it in too for this sweet deal then make sure you get to your nearest Harvey Nichols store ASAP. I was also treated to a mini makeover by the girls at the Stila counter. They are seriously so sweet and transformed me into this fresh, bright eyed dewy face which I loved. I also adored the Stila coral cream blush, see it here. It’s a little pricey I think at £16 but if work gave me a salary increase this would definitely be on my shopping list (before the bread and milk!). Another fave of mine was the triple-swirled helix serum. Which is an awesome colour-corrector primer that diminishes the appearance of imperfections while the green cancel outs the redness on your face. How clever? It really feels so smooth and soft. I love that you could even wear it without the make up and it would just give your skin the gorgeous lift and natural glow.

I had a quick squiz on the Stila website and noticed that it is still set only to the US or Japan. I am sure a UK option must be coming soon if they are now back in the UK? I thought they would have timed this with their UK store launch... anyhoo at least you can see all the gorgeous products online and then head into Harvey Nicols where I am sure the girls would be more than happy to help and give you a few testers!

If this had been the UK Glamour Magazine for February 2012 I would definitely have bought it (purely because those cute high waist shorts have won me over!) I didn't like the UK Glamour cover particularly this month. It didn't wow me. There were no freebies either to sway me. And I wasn't particularly drawn to it. I was however drawn to the latest UK Vogue with all those gorgeous pastels and summery vibe. It keeps catching my eye every time I walk past a news agent stand on my way to work. I may just cave in and get it this week... Has anyone else bought the UK Vogue? What did you think of it?

I married my husband when I was 21 (it was also the first post I ever did, here). Nearly 3 years later I have realised so much about myself, about my husband and about what it takes to make a marriage work. Here are just a few truths about being married that didn't come with the instruction manual.

You will never really know what all those buttons on the washing machine are for

Family and love will become two of the most important things in your life

You will love and appreciate your mom so much more than you ever did. And you will secretly doubt that you can ever be as good as she is at being a wife and a mom

You will miss your parents home cooked meals, even if you didn't like their veggies in the first place

There will be times in your marriage when you think about your exs and the what ifs

As a woman you will evaluate your relationship every day. A man will only evaluate the relationship when you fight

There will be moments when you do not feel valued. These moments too shall pass

You'll probably never be as skinny as you were on your wedding day (this sux I know!)

The first year of marriage will be the hardest

You will start buying cute things for the house before buying things for your wardrobe

Your idea of romantic is a candle lit dinner. His idea of romantic is a afternoon of paintballing.

You can bet your bottom dollar that at least for your birthday or Christmas each year someone will buy you a cook book or a baking book (or both!)

One weekend you will wake up early and make pancakes for breakfast just because that's what great wives do

And even if you didn't want kids, you will start to wonder what they might look like

In sickness and in health: The sickness part counts. I kind of took this statement lightly thinking "yeah I know what this means". But you never really truly do, until you're in that situation. After being married for 5 months my husband become ill and every few months it has gotten worse. It is now chronic. We have been to specialists after specialists in South Africa and in the UK and no one has found a diagnoses yet. It is in sickness that you will be tested as a couple, as a woman and as a wife. I am the sole provider which I never thought I would be, I have had to figure out how to run a household on the other side of the world to our families. Friends will ocassionaly offer a symathetic message every now and then but their lives continue whereas this becomes your life. It's with this vow that you learn how strong you can be, how fragile a man can be and how hard life can be.

Being a wife will be the most rewarding thing you have done in life so far

Lana Del Ray is one of my new favourite artists. I cannot stop listening to this song, Born to Die <3 I L.O.V.E her. And how beautiful is she? New Cookbooks - YAY!

We had two of our lovely friends stay with us over New Years and they gave us the Meat Free Monday recipe book! *Squeak* I cannot wait to get in to the kitchen! My darling aunt in law (is that such a thing?) also sent over the East Coast Tables cookbook which has all the dishes and local foods from Kwazulu Natal (where I am from). Every time I open it I get a slight pang of homesickness though. I cannot wait to find some good recipes and make homely food other than veggie burgers or veggie pizza. Considering this year is all about eating healthy and getting fabulously fit (I just realised in the UK fit means "hot" where in SA fit means, literally fit. Like I could run a marathon fit. I am aiming for the latter. But if the first one happens as a result that would be grand anyway.)

The latest H&M catalogue arrived on my doorstep the other day and I had a quick squiz through it. It made me quite excited just thinking about spring around the corner. This season I think I might add more of a pop of color to my outfits. I usuallly stick to pastel colours but this season there are some gorgeous shades and hues. I am still in love with the robin egg blue and coral shades. Bring on the sunshine!
